A suspect in the murder of Deka Abdinoor Gorone in Nairobi’s Lavington area, Hashim Dagane Muhumed, was reportedly in a romantic relationship with her, despite family objections. Investigations reveal Hashim had proposed to Deka’s family twice but was turned down, which strained the relationship. Despite warnings from her family and friends, Deka continued meeting Hashim in private.
Raised in Wajir and working in Nairobi, Deka was last seen on October 21, the same day bodies of three other women were found in separate locations. Her family filed a missing person’s report on October 24. Later, a voice message from Deka claimed she had left the country, a statement authorities believe was made under Hashim’s influence as her phone showed irregular activity afterward.
Deka’s remains were later discovered at Langata Cemetery, suggesting the use of chemicals. Hashim’s phone, along with Deka’s ID, was recovered, and a second suspect was apprehended in Eldoret. While the motive remains unclear, certain body parts and her mobile phone are still missing, and investigations are ongoing.
