The government has addressed concerns following the migration of Kenyans from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) to the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) without their consent. The Ministry of Health explained that the migration was legal under a 2024 legal notice and is part of the transition to the Social Health Authority (SHA), which inherited all NHIF functions. SHA aims to enhance services and support universal healthcare goals. While initial technical issues caused delays, the system is now operational, with over 12.6 million Kenyans registered.
