The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has ordered the closure of 13 petrol stations and penalized four others for selling adulterated fuel or fuel meant for export. In a monitoring operation between July and September 2024, EPRA tested 5,854 samples across 1,321 sites, finding 1.29% of stations non-compliant. Violations included selling high-sulfur petrol, diesel contaminated with kerosene, and smuggled fuel. Penalties ranged from shutdowns to fines of up to KSh 304,806, with some stations reopening after paying taxes and penalties.
