President William Ruto will join global leaders in New York to advocate for a legally binding international treaty on plastic pollution. Ruto, attending the 79th UN General Assembly, will be the keynote speaker at a side event co-hosted by the Kenyan government and UNEP. The event aims to build momentum for an international agreement on plastic pollution by the end of 2024. Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and UNEP’s Inger Andersen will also participate. Kenya continues to push for Nairobi to host the secretariat for the treaty once finalized.
