World Clean Up Day is observed annually on September 20, following a proclamation by the UN General Assembly in Resolution 78/122.
This initiative brings together individuals globally to address the waste crisis through collaborative efforts.
In a statement released on Thursday, the National Environment Management Authority (Nema) announced that this year’s event will take place at Michuki Memorial Park in Nairobi.
According to the 2023 Annual Report, last year saw participation from 19.1 million people in the global clean-up effort, with 198 countries and territories involved, including 90 percent of UN member states. The initiative successfully collected 219,000 tonnes of waste.
