Some MCAs from the Mt Kenya region have expressed their support for Interior Cabinet Secretary Kindiki Kithure as their liaison to the Kenya Kwanza government.
Representatives from Murang’a, Kiambu, Nairobi, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Embu, Nyandarua, Nakuru, Isiolo, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi counties voiced confidence in Kindiki’s capability to foster regional development.
During a closed-door meeting held in a Murang’a hotel, the ward legislators indicated that they would rely on the CS to enhance their welfare and improve local growth. They emphasized that Kindiki’s position enables him to coordinate national development efforts effectively.
Kirinyaga Deputy Speaker Njinaro Njamuno highlighted that having a direct connection to the national government would accelerate development, complementing the initiatives of county governments.
This announcement followed expressions of frustration from regional MPs seeking development projects and identifying Kindiki as their main contact for relaying development concerns.
The MCAs acknowledged the need for a unified approach to advocate for development in their region. “As MCAs elected through the UDA party, we back the President’s commitment to equitable development that uplifts Kenyans nationwide,” stated Njamuno.
Isiolo County Assembly Speaker Mohammed Roba, who attended the meeting, reiterated their collective support for Kindiki, believing it would lead to increased development and the completion of stalled projects.
The ward representatives emphasized their role in ensuring that development reaches the grassroots, aligned with the bottom-up development agenda. Roba clarified that supporting the CS was not meant to undermine other leaders but was driven by Kindiki’s mandate to oversee national projects.
Chinga MCA Kiruka Thuku remarked on the importance of including MCAs in development discussions, citing their frequent interactions with residents and understanding of their needs.
However, some MCAs walked out of the meeting in protest, calling for a more inclusive approach that considers all leaders. This endorsement further positions CS Kindiki in potential conflict with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, regarded as the presumed leader of the Mt Kenya region.
