A Magistrate’s Court is scheduled to hold a pre-trial conference in the case of journalist Scophine Aoko Otieno, also known as Maverick Aoko Otieno. She faces charges of allegedly publishing false information on her ‘X’ social media account.
During the conference, the court will review whether all required documentation for the trial has been provided and served.
Aoko is also charged with cyber harassment and fraudulent use of electronic data. The charges allege that on August 3, she posted false, defamatory, and threatening information about Amber Ray and Jamal, which was purportedly intended to damage the reputation and career of Beth Wambui Mbuitu.
Aoko appeared before Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi and was granted bail of Sh100,000. The magistrate ruled that her phones and laptops, which were confiscated during her arrest, will remain as evidence and cannot be returned until forensic investigations are completed. The request for their return will be reconsidered at a later date.
In a separate case, the High Court is set to address a new application related to a previous order requiring the Muthaiga Golf Club to grant access to City advocate Donald Kipkorir. Judge Mwita issued this order a week ago following an application by the advocate. The court has scheduled a hearing for October 15, but a new application has surfaced, bringing the matter before the same judge again on Tuesday.
