The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has announced the release of a new series of banknotes, featuring several updates.
The new notes will circulate alongside the existing ones and include changes across all denominations: one hundred shillings (Sh100), two hundred shillings (Sh200), five hundred shillings (Sh500), and one thousand shillings (Sh1,000).
Key updates to the banknotes include a new signature from the current CBK Governor, Kamau Thugge, and the Treasury Principal Secretary, Dr. Chris Kiptoo. Additionally, the notes will feature the print year “2024” and a new security thread with color variations for each denomination.
The updated series will start with the Sh1,000 note, with other denominations to follow in the coming months. The new banknotes retain the design features of the 2019 series launched by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, alongside former CBK Governor Patrick Njoroge, who also introduced the current generation of coins.
