The Azimio La Umoja coalition has approved the appointment of Suna East MP Junet Mohamed as Minority Leader, according to a statement from the ODM Party.
The ODM Party also confirmed that Millie Odhiambo will serve as the new Minority Whip.
In a tweet, the ODM Party announced: “The Azimio PG meeting has unanimously endorsed Hon. Junet Mohamed as the Minority Leader and Hon. Millie Odhiambo as the Minority Whip in the National Assembly.”
Junet Mohamed, previously the Minority Whip, is stepping into the role vacated by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, who was appointed Energy Cabinet Secretary by President William Ruto. Millie Odhiambo of Suba North will take over Mohamed’s former position as Minority Whip.
Additionally, Saboti MP Caleb Amisi will assume the role of Chair for the Public Accounts Committee, while Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo will chair the Public Investments Committee.
These appointments are part of a series of changes announced by ODM’s Central Management Committee, led by party leader Raila Odinga, on Wednesday.
The party also revealed the resignation of several officials, including John Mbadi as National Chairperson, Opiyo Wandayi as Secretary for Political Affairs, Wycliffe Oparanya and Hassan Joho as Deputy Party Leaders, and Beatrice Askul Moe from the Party Elections Committee, as noted by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
