East African Community (EAC) integration can be fully realized through enhanced legislative collaboration, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has said.
Speaking as the President of the Bureau of EAC Speakers, Wetang’ula reaffirmed his commitment to fostering regional unity, legislative alignment, and economic growth. He made these remarks during a courtesy visit by EAC Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul, who also oversees Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) and Regional Development.
Wetang’ula emphasized that strengthening ties between the Bureau of EAC Speakers and the Ministry of EAC Affairs is key to eliminating obstacles hindering integration. He called for the elevation of the Bureau of EAC Speakers into a more influential regional body, saying legislative coordination is crucial for advancing economic cooperation and policy harmonization.
The meeting addressed trade barriers, infrastructure development, and legal harmonization to facilitate cross-border movement. Wetang’ula reiterated Kenya’s commitment to the EAC agenda, urging partner states to work together for sustainable economic and social progress.
