The murder of Willis Ayieko, Human Resource Manager at Wells Fargo, appears to have been carefully planned, with suspects taking steps to conceal their identities. Detectives found that Ayieko’s car dash camera was disabled on the night he was last seen, suggesting that his abductors were aware of its presence and aimed to avoid being recorded.
On October 18, Ayieko left a funeral vigil in Gem, Siaya County, and was not seen afterward. His friends had advised leaving together in a convoy, but he chose to leave alone. Surveillance footage revealed that the two men who abandoned his vehicle in Sabatia, close to where his body was later found, wore caps and kept their heads down. They parked the car, popped the bonnet to suggest a mechanical issue, and left carrying a bag thought to contain Ayieko’s belongings.
Authorities believe Ayieko may have been followed from Nairobi to Siaya, where he was hijacked. His phone was switched on and off until October 20, raising further questions. Police are also investigating possible tampering with his bank accounts during his disappearance.
The motive for the murder remains unclear, though authorities suspect it might have been driven by revenge. Ayieko, a licensed gun holder, had his pistol and other valuables stolen. His body was found on October 23 in a stream in Yala, showing signs of torture and dragging. Police are continuing their investigation, revisiting locations where he was last seen.
The family reported him missing on October 21, and friends and relatives are now gathering at his Kahawa Sukari home to plan his funeral while the investigation continues.
