Former Laikipia Woman Representative Cate Waruguru has urged Mt Kenya leaders to stop attacking Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Waruguru pointed out that Gachagua supported many of the MPs who are now criticizing him during the 2022 elections. “Some leaders in Mt Kenya seem to spend their entire day disparaging Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua,” she remarked.
She emphasized that Gachagua should not be blamed entirely for the country’s challenges. “Rigathi is not the ultimate authority; he serves as the personal assistant and aide to the President we elected, William Ruto,” she explained.
Waruguru noted that Gachagua cannot be dismissed from the government as he worked tirelessly across Mt Kenya and the entire country to secure votes. “We cannot contribute to electing this administration and then be sidelined or excluded,” she added.
She further stated that the ongoing criticisms should not undermine the integrity of the votes. “Keep criticizing the DP if you must, but as long as our votes are secure, we are prepared for the outcome,” she declared.
Waruguru also cautioned that Mt Kenya voters should not be overlooked by current leaders. “I urge the Mt Kenya community to question why they are so often misled and why they react negatively to those who speak the truth,” she said.
Meanwhile, over 60 UDA MPs from Mt Kenya and Nairobi have distanced themselves from Gachagua, aligning with Interior CS Kithure Kindiki as their new liaison to President Ruto. They have expressed concerns about stalled development projects and the potential lack of progress for the Mt Kenya region.
