Roots Party leader George Wajackoya has urged former Prime Minister Raila Odinga to engage in broad consultations before making any political moves following his unsuccessful bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.
Wajackoya advised Raila to extend his consultations beyond ODM members and include leaders from diverse political backgrounds.
“Engage with other political leaders—don’t assume that you and ODM have all the answers,” Wajackoya stated during an interview with Spice FM on Tuesday morning.
“If you aspire to lead this country, and as my friend whom I speak to daily, take time to listen to other leaders.”
His remarks follow Raila’s announcement that he will soon reveal his political direction after completing consultations.
Since his loss in Addis Ababa, Raila has been engaging ODM leaders and county delegates to strategize his next steps.
Wajackoya also cautioned against making a hasty decision to align with the government, urging Raila to seek broader input.
“Raila should consult leaders like Eugene Wamalwa, Kalonzo Musyoka, and myself. We need to sit down, exchange ideas, and find a collective way forward,” he said.
The former presidential candidate further warned against adopting the Nadco report without a thorough constitutional review.
“I will not support it unless I fully understand its constitutional implications,” he stated, calling for extensive dialogue among political leaders.
Raila has been advocating for the full implementation of the Nadco report, which emerged from negotiations between Kenya Kwanza and the opposition after the 2022 election dispute.
Additionally, Wajackoya expressed frustration over being sidelined by other political figures.
“Many political parties avoid working with me because they see me as outdated and too outspoken. But I tell them the truths they prefer to ignore,” he remarked.
