Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome has refuted Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu’s claims that she lacks power in her ministry within the Kenya Kwanza government. Nyutu, speaking at a church event, implied that leaders from the Mt. Kenya region, including Wahome, had lost influence despite their roles. He criticized Moses Kuria’s recent appointment as Senior Economic Advisor as a “demotion” from his former Cabinet Secretary position.
In response, Wahome, currently in Baku, Azerbaijan for COP29 meetings, stated on social media that her priority remains service delivery, not power. She urged Nyutu not to involve her in political disputes, adding, “Kindly do not drag me into your politics.”
The debate highlights rising tension among Mt. Kenya leaders who feel sidelined in Kenya Kwanza, with murmurs of more leaders facing potential dismissals despite backing President Ruto’s campaign.
