Lecturers and staff at the University of Eldoret have joined the ongoing strike across universities to demand the implementation of their 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
Over 800 lecturers and employees have stated they will not return to work until their demands are addressed.
The strike is being led by UASU branch secretary Phillip Chebunet and Robinson Korir from the Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU).
“We refuse to let our universities suffer due to the government’s poor policies, such as the new funding model,” Chebunet asserted.
He noted that Vice Chancellors claimed the new funding model was effective, and they should use those funds to pay their staff.
Korir added that they are prepared to disrupt learning at the university until their demands are fulfilled.
