A senior Uasin Gishu County official has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) over allegations of extorting bribes from citizens seeking land-related services.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed that the arrest followed investigations into multiple public complaints. The official allegedly demanded bribes between Sh100,000 and Sh300,000 to approve land services, even for processes outside her official role.
At the time of her arrest, the official had demanded Sh120,000 for signing a land lease document and had already received a Sh50,000 deposit. Two security agents were also arrested for obstructing EACC officers during the operation.
The suspects are being held at the EACC North Rift Regional Offices for further processing. This case is part of broader investigations into extortion in Uasin Gishu County by both national and county officials involved in land services.
