President Donald Trump has granted TikTok a 75-day extension to comply with U.S. law requiring it to sell its American assets or face a ban. Writing on Truth Social, Trump said he hopes the app can continue operating and that efforts are ongoing to finalize a deal.
Previously, TikTok had briefly gone offline ahead of a potential shutdown tied to a law passed by Congress. With 170 million U.S. users, the app is owned by China-based ByteDance.
Trump stated the delay allows more time to secure all necessary approvals and noted that his team is in contact with four groups interested in acquiring TikTok, though he didn’t specify who they are.
