US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has claimed that US President Joe Biden was compelled to withdraw from the election campaign following what he described as a coup.
In an interview, Trump asserted, “It was essentially a coup against a sitting president. Biden secured 14 million votes, campaigned for a year, and won, only to be ousted. They gave him an ultimatum: leave voluntarily or face a more difficult exit. The message was clear—either leave the easy way or the hard way, and he chose to leave. They then replaced him with Vice President Kamala Harris, who had previously been a failed candidate.”
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5.
Initially, Biden was expected to lead the Democratic ticket. However, following a lackluster performance at the June 27 televised debate against Trump, there was mounting pressure from within the Democratic Party for Biden to step down. Consequently, on July 21, Biden announced his decision to exit the race and endorsed Harris as the Democratic nominee.
