The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) has temporarily reinstated ODM election coordinators who were recently dismissed, following a case filed by lawyer Ashioya Biko. The tribunal issued stay orders allowing the officials to resume their roles until the case is fully heard and determined.
This decision challenges the ODM Central Committee’s move to fire all National Elections Committee Coordinators, which was aimed at preventing them from managing the upcoming party polls. Tribunal Chair Desma Nungo found merit in the application and set April 23, 2025, as the date for further directions.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna defended the dismissals, stating they were necessary to restore public trust in the party’s internal elections, especially in Nairobi, Siaya, and Migori counties. The party’s grassroots elections, paused since November 2024, are set to resume on April 7, beginning at the ward level.
