The lives of an apparently ordinary couple took a tragic and dark turn, culminating in a devastating double tragedy. What began as a distressing social media rant by Evans Kosgei quickly escalated into a horrifying reality, leaving behind a shattered family and a community in mourning.
Evans Kosgei, a 33-year-old security guard, and Jackline Kimaiyo, a secondary school teacher, were once united by love and commitment. However, their relationship began to unravel, and Kosgei turned to social media to express his grievances, accusing his wife of infidelity and betrayal. In a series of cryptic messages, Kosgei depicted a tumultuous marriage, alleging that Kimaiyo was involved with multiple men behind his back.
As tensions mounted, the situation took a sinister turn. Kimaiyo, the focus of Kosgei’s accusations, went missing on March 7, failing to report to work at Itundu Secondary School in Nyeri County. Concerned colleagues searched for her and tragically discovered her lifeless body in her home. The discovery prompted a swift police response.
According to Wesley Kitienei, the Criminal Investigations Officer for Mathira East Sub County, Kosgei’s mobile phone was traced to Mt Kenya Forest, near the school where Kimaiyo worked. His phone’s activity indicated a change in location around 3:00 p.m., after which it was powered off. Kosgei was later tracked to Thika, but tragically, a day before his arrest, his body was found hanging from a tree.
The sequence of events surrounding this tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of relationships and the devastating consequences that can arise from unchecked emotions and actions.
