Over 625,000 farming households in 26 Kenyan counties are set to benefit from a Sh12.4 billion programme by Heifer International aimed at boosting rural incomes and agricultural resilience. The seven-year initiative—Practice for Change (P4C)—will support sustainable, market-driven development with a focus on women and youth.
Heifer International CEO Surita Sandosham said the programme addresses challenges like poor market access, limited finance, and lack of climate-smart infrastructure. Agriculture CS Mutahi Kagwe emphasized the need for strategic partnerships to transform the sector sustainably.
The programme will strengthen key value chains such as dairy, poultry, beef, and horticulture. It will also offer training in agribusiness, improve access to digital tools, and integrate clean energy solutions to reduce post-harvest losses. Additionally, it supports youth innovation through the AYuTe initiative and promotes financial inclusion via Heifer Impact Capital.
