Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula anchor President Ruto’s influence in Western Kenya, a region that largely supported Raila Odinga in the last election. To strengthen his position at the Coast, Ruto will rely on Mining CS Hassan Joho, Trade CS Salim Mvurya, and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.
Joho recently sparked criticism with a statement targeting online critics of government initiatives, warning they could face repercussions for their opposition. Junet Mohamed also urged the removal of public participation requirements, claiming they hinder key government projects.
In Nairobi, Ruto’s allies, including Governor Johnson Sakaja and Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi, are expected to secure support. ODM MPs George Aladwa and TJ Kajwang may also campaign for him.
In Mount Kenya, where Ruto faces challenges following Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment, Interior CS Kithure Kindiki has been tasked with consolidating support. While Kindiki is seen as a statesman with national appeal, critics question his ability to counter Gachagua’s influence in the region.
Environment CS Aden Duale will lead Ruto’s strategy in Northeastern, while Labour CS Alfred Mutua and allied MPs will work to weaken Kalonzo Musyoka’s grip on Eastern Kenya. Ruto’s broader strategy involves mobilizing regional leaders to build support ahead of the 2027 election.
