President William Ruto has encouraged Kenyan youth to take advantage of government initiatives aimed at reducing unemployment. Speaking in Maragua, Murang’a County, he highlighted three key programmes: the Affordable Housing Project, ICT hubs, and international job placements.
The housing project, which involves 150,000 units, has already provided jobs to over 200,000 young people. ICT hubs, being set up in each ward, are expected to employ 200–300 individuals each. Ruto added that these hubs will also connect youth to global digital job opportunities.
Under the labour mobility programme, many young Kenyans are being sent to countries like the U.S., UAE, France, and the UK for work. He also urged unity and the avoidance of divisive politics, noting that employment can help address drug abuse issues in the Mt. Kenya region.
Additionally, Ruto asked the Controller of Budget to allow counties to issue bursaries, stressing that all children, regardless of government level, deserve educational support.
