President William Ruto has hailed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship as outstanding.
Speaking in Mombasa, Ruto stated that while he has supported many candidates in the past, Raila’s campaign was the most remarkable. He commended Raila’s dedication, noting that he was always present and actively engaged in his bid.
“It is a proud moment to welcome you back and to engage as we drive the development of our country,” Ruto said, emphasizing that Raila’s candidacy united Kenyans across political divides.
He also expressed gratitude to African leaders, both those who supported Raila and those who did not, for ensuring a smooth election process without a deadlock.
Raila described the experience as enlightening, saying it gave him a deeper understanding of Africa’s challenges. He met over 40 leaders across the continent and engaged on key issues affecting the region.
Despite his loss to Djibouti’s Ali Mohammed Youssouf, Raila termed it a “win” as it allows him to focus on other priorities at home.
