Ruger, the Nigerian Afrobeat sensation, addressed the growing popularity of his Kenyan impersonator, Ruger wa Kayole, during a recent show. He made it clear that he now embraces the title of “Kenyan Ruger.”
In a reflection on the matter, Azeezah highlighted Ruger’s positive response when asked about his look-alike, noting how the singer appreciated the imitation, including the hairstyle and stage presence. Ruger himself acknowledged this admiration, explaining that it demonstrates the extent to which his image has permeated beyond just music.
In an interview with BBC Entertainment, Ruger expressed full acceptance of his Kenyan doppelgänger. He emphasized that he has no intentions of pursuing legal action against Ruger wa Kayole, understanding that the impersonator is simply trying to make a living.
“Fake Ruger is out there living his life,” Ruger commented, referring to his Kenyan look-alike. “He’s even been booked for performances in Kenya. I’m genuinely happy for him. He’s hustling, and that’s fine by me.”
Ruger further noted that while the impersonator sings his songs, it ultimately benefits him as fans are driven to stream his music. He urged everyone to remain calm and supportive, recognizing that imitation can sometimes be a form of flattery and promotion.
Currently in Nairobi for his first show in the city, Ruger expressed his gratitude to Kenyan fans for their ongoing support, following his previous performance in Meru.
