The recent dissolution of President William Ruto’s Cabinet has left several high-profile former Cabinet Secretaries in a state of uncertainty. This sweeping decision, which retains only Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, follows widespread protests against the Finance Bill 2024.
In a comprehensive statement, President Ruto outlined the rationale behind his drastic measures, acknowledging significant progress in areas such as food production, economic stabilization, education reforms, social welfare, housing, manufacturing, and digital transformation. However, he emphasized that recent events warranted a thorough evaluation of the government’s performance.
Prominent figures affected by this Cabinet overhaul include Kipchumba Murkomen and Aden Duale. Murkomen, the former Elgeyo Marakwet Senator and Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, faces questions about his future political endeavors following his unexpected exit. Similarly, Aden Duale, who was overseeing the Defence docket, resigned from his position as Garissa Township MP to join Ruto’s administration. His departure has sparked discussions regarding whether he will return to his former constituency or seek new political avenues.
Additionally, Alice Wahome, the former Kandara MP, and Roselinda Soipan Tuya, who served as the Narok Woman Representative, are also navigating the uncertainties stemming from the Cabinet dissolution. Wahome, who held the Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation portfolio, and Tuya, who managed the Ministry of Wildlife and Tourism, both resigned from their elected positions to take on ministerial roles.
Cabinet Secretaries’ Reactions
Aden Duale expressed his heartfelt gratitude to President Ruto for the opportunity to serve, noting the honor he felt in his role. He referenced the Quran, underscoring that the best plans are ultimately those of Allah.
Kipchumba Murkomen described his tenure as a profound privilege, thanking President Ruto for allowing him to serve in such a critical capacity.
Alice Wahome conveyed her sincere appreciation for the chance to serve as the Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing, and Urban Development, previously holding the Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation role. She pledged her continued support to the President during this pivotal time for the nation.
Roselinda Soipan Tuya also expressed her gratitude to President Ruto, highlighting the honor of serving as the Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry.
