Azimio leader Raila Odinga has expressed his regret over an incident where journalists and opposition leaders were assaulted by unruly youths during a recent event at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation (JOOF) offices.
The disruption occurred when tensions escalated among party leaders regarding President William Ruto’s policies. Over 50 youths stormed the venue, declaring they would not tolerate any disrespect towards Raila Odinga, resulting in chaos as they overturned chairs and interrupted Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s press briefing.
In a statement on Thursday, Raila Odinga offered unreserved apologies to the affected journalists and fellow leaders. He assured them that the Azimio coalition would investigate the security breach that allowed the goons to infiltrate the event.
“The Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga deeply regrets the events of yesterday and takes this opportunity to sincerely apologize to the journalists and leaders who were affected,” stated his spokesperson, Dennis Onyango. He emphasized that the coalition is committed to addressing the security lapses to ensure the safety and freedom of journalists and leaders at future Azimio functions.
