Pressure is mounting on authorities to act against those responsible for illegal waste dumping and sewer disruptions at Kenya Power’s Nairobi premises. The dispute stems from an outstanding bill conflict between Kenya Power and Nairobi City County.
The Director of Public Prosecutions has ordered an investigation, citing public health concerns. Deputy DPP Jacinta Nyamosi directed the DCI to collaborate with relevant agencies and submit findings within seven days.
The county and Kenya Power have since agreed to resolve the dispute amicably following intervention by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. The disagreement involved Sh4.9 billion in unpaid wayleave fees owed by Kenya Power and outstanding electricity bills from the county.
Meanwhile, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has summoned the Inspector General of Police to explain why no action has been taken against those behind the garbage dumping outside Stima Plaza.
