During a media briefing at State House Nairobi on July 11, President Ruto announced that only Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi would remain in office, while the office of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would remain unaffected by this significant restructuring.
The President explained that this decision was prompted by recent developments in the country, as many Kenyans have voiced their dissatisfaction with the government. “Upon reflection, and after listening closely to the concerns of the people of Kenya, I conducted a thorough appraisal of my Cabinet’s performance, achievements, and challenges. In accordance with the powers granted to me by Article 152(1) and 152(5)(b) of the Constitution and Section 12 of the Office of the Attorney-General Act, I have decided to dismiss all Cabinet Secretaries and the Attorney-General from their positions, effective immediately, with the exception of the Prime Cabinet Secretary and the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs,” he stated.
President Ruto further indicated that he would engage in extensive consultations across various sectors and political formations to establish a broad-based government. This new team is expected to assist in accelerating the implementation of urgent reforms aimed at addressing the burden of debt, increasing domestic resources, expanding job opportunities, and eliminating inefficiencies within government agencies.
He assured that government operations would continue, with ministries now overseen by principal secretaries, and confirmed that he would unveil a new team in the coming days.
