Police have urged Kenyans, particularly revelers, to remain cautious and aware of their surroundings during the holiday period.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) cautioned against the increasing cases of drink spiking, which has led to drugging and theft.
“As the festive season gains momentum, members of the public, especially those frequenting entertainment spots, are advised to stay alert, as not every reveler has good intentions,” the DCI warned in a statement.
The DCI highlighted a recent case where a victim, after a night out, was drugged and robbed by a woman he met at a popular venue. The suspect, who was captured leaving the victim’s hotel room, allegedly stole mobile phones, a watch, and ATM cards before draining the victim’s bank accounts.
A manhunt for the suspect is underway.
In a broader security advisory, the Interior Ministry raised concerns about petty crimes like pickpocketing and muggings, which are expected to rise in crowded places such as markets, malls, and transport hubs. Authorities also flagged increased drug distribution, illicit alcohol production, and exploitation of vulnerable groups, including children and victims of gender-based violence, as significant concerns during the holidays.
The police urged citizens to exercise caution and report any suspicious activities promptly.
