Police are investigating five separate murder cases reported in various parts of the country.
In Juja, Kiambu County, Alex Kalului, a gardener, died following a fight between two groups during a drinking spree in Mwireri. The argument allegedly stemmed from a disagreement over the English Premier League. Kalului was taken to Thika Level Five Hospital but succumbed to his injuries. His body is at the General Kago Hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem.
In Sondu, Kericho County, the body of 26-year-old Victor Kimutai was discovered near a sugarcane plantation in Minet village. He had head injuries, and blood at the scene indicated a struggle. Kimutai was last seen with a friend who has since been arrested for questioning. The body is at Sigowet Subcounty General Hospital mortuary.
In Thika, Kiambu County, George Mureithi, 39, died a week after being assaulted by acquaintances. Mureithi had initially reported the assault but did not follow up on treatment. One suspect has been arrested, and a slasher believed to be the weapon was recovered.
In Kimilili, Bungoma County, 35-year-old Eunice Wanjala, also known as Winny, died from injuries sustained in an attack at her home. She had a deep head wound and neck injuries. After being transferred to multiple hospitals, she succumbed at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. Police are investigating the motive and perpetrators.
In Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County, a man died after being hacked during a group fight in Nyakwere village. The altercation arose over theft allegations. Police have detained a suspect and moved the body to the mortuary for an autopsy.
The rising cases of murder have prompted calls for peaceful conflict resolution to prevent further loss of life.
