On Wednesday, police in Eldoret intervened to stop a group of youth demonstrating in support of former Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen. The demonstrators were making their way along Kisumu Road towards the central business district when they were halted by law enforcement.
Led by area OCPD Edward Masibo, the police informed the youth that their demonstration had not been officially notified as required. However, leaders of the group were permitted to address the crowd briefly before dispersing.
William Cherais, a youth leader, expressed strong support for Murkomen’s potential reappointment to the Cabinet. “We urge the President to reappoint Murkomen because he did an excellent job,” Cherais stated.
The youth also voiced their backing for President William Ruto’s assertion that recent nationwide youth protests were being funded by foreign organizations.
Following a few speeches from youth leaders, the group peacefully dispersed without entering the town. This demonstration occurred just days after another group of youth celebrated Murkomen’s dismissal from the Cabinet by cutting a cake in his honor.
