President William Ruto has announced the formal recognition of the Nubian community in Kenya, integrating them into the national framework by the end of the year. Speaking during an Iftar dinner at State House, he acknowledged their contributions to nation-building and affirmed their rightful place in society.
With an estimated population of over 100,000, the Nubians will officially become Kenya’s 43rd tribe. Historically marginalized, they have faced challenges such as statelessness and limited access to citizenship, education, and jobs.
Ruto also emphasized national unity, assuring that the government is inclusive and can accommodate all citizens. Additionally, he promised to resolve longstanding issues affecting Waqf, the commission managing Islamic endowments, within months.
