The Ministry of Health announced that new nursing and clinical officer interns will receive reduced stipends following a recent court decision. Public Health PS Mary Muthoni stated that only medical interns would have their stipends renegotiated per court directions, while others would be paid according to the March SRC guidelines.
Under these guidelines, clinical officer diploma interns will earn Sh27,000 to Sh35,000, while degree holders will receive Sh35,000 to Sh50,000. Nursing interns will also earn between Sh35,000 and Sh50,000, and pharmacist and dental interns between Sh47,000 and Sh70,000.
The Kenya National Union of Nurses continues to push for higher stipends, with Secretary General Seth Panyako advocating for Sh74,000 for nursing interns.
