Former NTV health journalist Nasibo Kabale is currently in a rehabilitation facility and is reported to be doing well, according to her mother. She clarified that Nasibo had entered rehab prior to the viral video that highlighted her condition.
“She’s in rehab and has been there for some time. The video that went viral is just that—a video, but she’s doing fine,” her mother said.
The update came during a visit from comedian and social activist Eric Omondi, who had gone to Nasibo’s home in Jamhuri Estate, Nairobi, to check on her situation. Omondi had previously offered assistance after a video showing Nasibo in distress circulated online on Thursday.
Omondi shared on Instagram: “Hey guys, I visited Nasibo’s home in Jamhuri today. She was flown to rehab this morning by her brother. Her mother says she’ll be okay and has asked for our prayers. God bless you all.”
Omondi explained his visit by addressing the mixed information surrounding Nasibo’s condition. “I wanted to get the facts directly. As of now, Nasibo is okay and in rehab. The mother has clarified the situation, so there’s no need for concern about her being homeless. Let’s continue to pray for her family. Thank you for your support.”
In the viral video, Nasibo had shared that she fell into depression during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She expressed frustration over the lack of understanding about depression, noting that people often mistake it for self-pity and may distance themselves.
Nasibo expressed her desire to return to her work, focusing on podcasting and vlogging rather than traditional media. She mentioned that she already has a ring light and only needs a good phone and microphone to resume her work.
“I used to be a writer, but with the changing media landscape, I’m looking to focus on podcasting,” she said.
