The Nairobi City County Government has made a significant advancement in service delivery by introducing a backup internet link. The Customer Service Centre at City Hall is now equipped with high-speed internet from Starlink, providing speeds between 120 Mbps and 200 Mbps.
According to Tiras Njoroge, Chief Officer of ICT Infrastructure, this new network redundancy will ensure that critical customer services remain operational even during primary network failures. The upgrade is designed to offer a smooth and uninterrupted experience for residents relying on digital services.
Njoroge expressed enthusiasm about the integration of Starlink satellite technology, emphasizing that it will enhance service delivery and improve access to the Nairobi Pay system.
Truphena Ogonda, ICT Infrastructure County Director, highlighted that the new infrastructure will accommodate higher data loads and support the expansion of e-government services, aligning with the shift toward fully digital service provision.
This technological upgrade supports Governor Johnson Sakaja’s commitment to leveraging technology to streamline operations. Starlink, which entered the Kenyan market in July 2023, provides high-speed internet and extensive coverage to remote areas often underserved by traditional internet providers. Powered by SpaceX, Starlink’s satellite network offers fast, low-latency internet, making it an ideal solution for both rural and underserved regions.
