Alfred Mutua, the nominee for Labor and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary, has highlighted his accomplishments from his tenure at the Tourism Ministry.
Mutua reported a significant increase in tourist arrivals, attributing this growth to the systems he implemented. He revealed that the ministry anticipates welcoming up to three million visitors by the end of the year, with projections reaching five million within the next eighteen months.
Regarding human-wildlife conflict, Mutua introduced a new compensation scheme that has disbursed one billion shillings to long-waiting victims. He also established new systems to ensure more timely payments.
Mutua addressed corruption in park fencing projects, revealing that he curtailed exorbitant costs. Previously, fencing was priced at three million shillings per kilometer. By revising the process and conducting thorough research, he reduced the cost to 850,000 shillings per kilometer. This adjustment allowed for the fencing of 400 kilometers instead of the originally planned 100 kilometers.
Mutua, who was the second nominee for vetting on the fourth day, previously served in both Tourism and Foreign Affairs.
