Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has called for science-based solutions and multi-stakeholder collaboration to address global food security challenges. Speaking at the opening of CGIAR Science Week 2025 in Nairobi, Mudavadi emphasized that agriculture — which supports over 60% of Africa’s population — is under threat from climate change, land degradation, and limited access to resources.
“This is a defining moment to explore how science can mitigate agricultural challenges,” Mudavadi said. He urged stakeholders to forge strategic partnerships and pursue bold, sustainable solutions to boost food resilience.
CGIAR Executive Managing Director Dr. Ismahane Elouafi highlighted the urgency of the global food crisis, noting that over 800 million people remain hungry. She emphasized the role of science and innovation — in technology, policy, and finance — in transforming agriculture. UNON’s Zainab Hawa Bangura echoed the call for partnerships and innovation to empower farmers and build sustainable systems.
The event, co-hosted by KALRO and ILRI, brings together global experts to drive innovation for food, nutrition, and climate security.
