The Kenyan-led multinational Mission to Haiti (MSS) has urged gangs in the country to surrender to authorities.
In a recent update, MSS announced that with the arrival of additional vehicles and equipment, they will launch clearance operations in Delmas, Bel-Air, Solino, and surrounding areas to eliminate gang presence. These operations will be conducted in collaboration with the Haiti National Police (HNP) to restore normalcy in these regions.
The multinational Mission outlined that the operations will involve coordinated efforts across air, sea, and land.
“Last week, MSS received additional vehicles and equipment from the US Government, which will bolster joint operations with Haitian forces,” MSS stated. “The pacification efforts will clear roads and streets to ensure smooth movement of people and vehicles. MSS is urging gang members to surrender their weapons and give themselves up to the government.”
The Kenya-led mission also called on all stakeholders to continue their support in stabilizing the Caribbean nation and reaffirmed its commitment to achieving lasting peace in Haiti.
“MSS calls on the Haitian people, authorities, and stakeholders to support our mission in re-establishing security and creating conditions for free and fair elections,” MSS said. “We remain dedicated to our mandate under UNSC Resolution 2699 and will work with the HNP to ensure a safe and secure Haiti.”
In recent weeks, the team has made progress, including taking control of several critical infrastructures in the country.
