The National Assembly Committee on Appointments, chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, will today vet President William Ruto’s Cabinet nominees Geoffrey Ruku and Hanna Wendot Cheptumo. The hearings will take place between 2 pm and 6 pm at County Hall, Parliament buildings.
Ruku, the Mbeere North MP, has been nominated to lead the Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes docket, while Cheptumo is set to head the Ministry of Gender, Culture, The Arts and Heritage. She would fill a position left vacant since Ruto’s Cabinet overhaul. Cheptumo is also the widow of former Baringo Senator William Cheptumo.
Mwaura, Civil Society to Address Nation Separately
Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura is expected to hold a press briefing at KICC at noon to address national matters. Meanwhile, civil society groups will deliver a separate State of the Nation address from the KHRC offices in Nairobi, following recent controversy over police conduct at the National Drama Festival involving Butere Girls students.
