Police in Mombasa arrested three suspects for allegedly robbing two Russian nationals of Sh2.5 million while posing as Airbnb hosts. The suspects lured the victims into a trap, brandished weapons, and forced them to transfer money online.
They were caught at a short-term rental in Kisauni and arraigned in court, with detectives granted three days to complete investigations. Authorities revealed the trio is part of an online dating scam network targeting foreigners.
DCI warns of rising online fraud cases, including fake sellers of household goods on social media, scamming buyers before disappearing. Investigations are ongoing.
