Two Mombasa County officials have been suspended following the demolition of an 11-story building that resulted in the death of Yusuf Ali Abdi, whose body was recovered 11 days after the incident.
Governor Abdulswamad Sharif Nassir confirmed the suspension and stated that an independent task force is leading the investigation. The controlled demolition, which used explosives for the first time in Kenya, triggered safety concerns and led to the evacuation of over 60 families. Authorities have since halted 20 other construction projects linked to the same engineers and officials, amid growing calls for justice and stricter enforcement of building regulations.
