Learning at Moi University remains paralyzed as lecturers’ strikes over salary arrears persist. Students, recalled last week, face continued disruptions as negotiations fail.
The university owes over Sh12 billion and suffers from mismanagement. Moi University Students Organization leaders have written to President William Ruto, urging intervention to prevent the institution’s collapse.
The Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) rejected a Sh4.5 billion government bailout, deeming it insufficient, and vowed to strike until all dues are cleared. Efforts by the university to resolve the standoff, including suspensions and show-cause letters to striking lecturers, have been unsuccessful.
Learning remains stalled, with medical students stuck for over eight years without completing their courses.
