A first-year Electrical Engineering student at Multimedia University (MMU) has surrendered to police after being linked to the murder of fellow student Sylvia Kemunto, a first-year Mass Communications and Computer Science student. The suspect, who had been on the run since last Monday, turned himself in at Sultan Hamud Police Station.
Police believe Kemunto was killed in her hostel room, placed in a suitcase, and her body later dumped in a rooftop water tank. Her mother raised alarm after failing to reach her and discovering she was missing. Investigations revealed she had earlier expressed discomfort about a male student making unwanted advances.
The suspect was last seen dragging Kemunto’s suitcase to his room. Her body was discovered days later after a foul smell led the search team to the water tank. Authorities are investigating whether he acted alone and what his motive was.
