Mbaitu FM presenter Mercy Mawia is being laid to rest today at her home in Nyahururu, ending the speculation surrounding her final wishes. Contrary to earlier rumors that she desired to be cremated, her husband, Mr. Mwangi, clarified that these reports were false.
The emotional burial ceremony saw the attendance of notable celebrities, media figures, and musicians such as Stephen Kasolo. Mercy’s passing followed treatment for blood clots at a Nairobi hospital, where Mr. Mwangi was by her side.
On July 30, a candlelight ceremony at Captains Lounge provided a platform for Mwangi to reflect on Mercy’s struggles with her illness and pregnancy complications. The following day, a requiem mass at AIC Milimani Church saw Mwangi deliver a heartfelt tribute to their 16 years together.
In his eulogy, Mwangi expressed profound sorrow and disbelief over Mercy’s passing. He spoke of their deep bond and the joy they shared despite facing numerous challenges.
“Mercy, I have cried a sea; my spirit and will are bruised. This grief and pain are unbearable. With you gone, my sorrows know no end. I have been told to look to God for comfort, though I question why you had to leave us,” Mwangi said.
He described Mercy as a fighter who, despite battling abdominal clots and being five months pregnant after eight years of trying for a child, faced her fate with courage. Mwangi lamented the lost future they had planned together and vowed to remain strong for their daughter, Stephanie.
As Mercy Mawia is laid to rest, her family, friends, and fans remember her as a strong, loving individual who made a significant impact on those around her.
