The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has refuted claims that it has terminated the contract of its Chief Executive Officer, Ezekiel Mutua.
In a statement issued to newsrooms, MCSK national chairman Ephantus Kamau termed a circulating letter alleging Mutua’s dismissal as fake and misleading.
“Please disregard this misinformation,” Kamau stated, affirming that the current interim board is committed to serving its members diligently.
He clarified that the individual behind the letter is merely a member of the society without the legal authority to issue such a notice, adding that their term ends on February 16, 2025. Kamau further disclosed that the person is currently facing contempt of court charges and is subject to restraining orders.
The disputed letter, which has been widely shared online, claimed that MCSK had terminated Mutua’s employment effective April 3, 2025, and warned stakeholders not to engage with him on behalf of the organization.
Kamau assured that MCSK would issue further updates on the matter when necessary.
MCSK is a Collective Management Organization (CMO) responsible for collecting and distributing royalties to authors, composers, arrangers, and publishers of musical works in Kenya and beyond. It plays a vital role in ensuring that music creators are compensated for the public performance and broadcasting of their works.
