Bob Munro, founder and chairman of Mathare United FC, has passed away at his home in Westlands. His death was confirmed by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), which hailed him as a champion of grassroots football in Kenya.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed described Munro as a selfless leader who played a key role in professionalizing the Kenya Premier League (KPL) and promoting youth football. He highlighted Munro’s lasting impact on the sport, noting his recognition with the Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) and global awards, including the Help for Self-Help Prize (1999) and the Play the Game Award (2015).
Munro founded Mathare United in 1994 and remained dedicated to its growth. FKF expressed condolences to his family, friends, and the Kenyan football community, acknowledging his enduring legacy.
