Residents of Mathare 4A were shaken on Monday morning after discovering the body of Michael Oworo lying in a pool of blood. Witnesses heard screams and found his young son standing nearby, crying in distress.
Oworo, a mason, was reportedly taking his son to a daycare center before heading to work at a construction site when he was attacked. Police believe the fatal stabbing occurred during a robbery, as he appeared to have struggled with the assailant. His son’s lunchbox, containing ugali and omena, lay scattered at the scene.
Authorities say the suspect is known and efforts to arrest him are ongoing. Neighbors described Oworo as a dedicated single father who had raised his son alone since infancy.
The incident sparked outrage among residents, who briefly blocked police from collecting the body in protest against rising insecurity. Nairobi DCI boss Benson Kasyoki confirmed that detectives are investigating the case.
