A man in Nambale, Busia County, surrendered to police after allegedly killing his wife over suspicions of infidelity.
He reported the incident at Sangalo police station, stating that on March 4, he had seen his wife with another man in a sugarcane plantation but initially chose to remain silent despite his anger. When he later confronted her at home, she allegedly responded arrogantly, prompting him to attack her with a panga, slitting her throat in a fit of rage.
After disposing of the weapon in a pit latrine and locking the house, he walked to the police station and turned himself in. Officers later found the body of 35-year-old Mercy Nanjala and moved it to the mortuary for further examination. The murder weapon was recovered, and the suspect is set to face charges.
Police continue to urge families to resolve disputes peacefully, as domestic-related murders remain a significant concern.
In a separate incident, a woman in Kabarnet, Baringo County, was arrested for strangling her eight-month-old baby. The attack followed a dispute with her husband on March 4. Authorities say she also slammed the infant to the ground, killing her instantly.
The child’s body was taken to Baringo County Referral Hospital for a postmortem, while the suspect was detained and will face murder charges.
