Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has dismissed her Chief of Staff, Lawrence Ngovi.
The dismissal was announced on Friday by Dr. Muya Ndambuki, the County Secretary and Head of Public Service.
In a statement, Ndambuki said, “This is to inform the public that Mr. Lawrence Nzau Ngovi has been removed from his position as Chief of Staff in the Governor’s office, Machakos County, effective today, July 19, 2024. He is no longer authorized to conduct any county-related business.”
The statement did not provide details regarding the reasons for Ngovi’s dismissal. Efforts to reach Ngovi for a response were unsuccessful as he had not replied to inquiries by the time of publication.
An official from the governor’s office expressed disappointment over the decision, saying, “It’s unfortunate because we’ve lost a long-time colleague. We’ve worked together for many years.”
Ngovi has been a close ally of Governor Ndeti, supporting her through transitions from her former Chama Cha Uzalendo (CCU) party to the Wiper Democratic Movement, which led to her election in 2022. He played a significant role in her gubernatorial campaigns, including the 2017 race against former Tourism CS Alfred Mutua, and was a familiar presence at her public functions.
Ngovi’s removal marks the end of a long-standing professional relationship with the governor, during which he was a key figure in her protocol and executive team.
